Grand Gallius Castle

7 rue du Portal Rouge

33340 GAILLAN-EN-MEDOC

Union of producers and other vintages

The history of this vineyard owned by the Bernard family goes back 5 generations. It began in 1968, with the planting of 2 hectares of vines.
Following the plowing of one of these plots, many fragments of ceramic dishes, pieces of amphorae and small coins dating from the Gallo-Roman period were found. These lands were once inhabited by a wealthy Roman named Gallius.

Today, the estate extends over 16 hectares of vines and offers a rich range of wines in AOC Médoc, Bordeaux rosé and Clairet, sold directly at the property.

History and architecture

The name of the castle (Gallius) actually describes a wealthy Gallo-Roman who inherited his land.
Vestiges, Roman tiles, and other excavations made by MR SEUTIN MICHEL HISTORIEN médocain, are preserved in the cellar of the Castle. Formerly, the Gallo-Roman villa was located on the main plot at the entrance to the upper cellar.
