Port of By

The port is located in the estey of By, where the Grand chenal de By and the Petit chenal de By meet.
The remains of the old inclined slipway with a few mooring bollards are still visible on the north shore of the Grand Channel. Stakes and a few wooden pontoons allow the mooring of boats.
The water level is regulated by a flood gate, equipped upstream with two sliding shovels. It forms a bridge allowing the crossing of the channel by the departmental road n ° 2.
At the end of the 20th century, the activity of transporting goods, in particular wine shipped to the Charente, declined, leading to the abandonment and disappearance of the hold as well as the conversion of the platform, dedicated to the deposit of foodstuffs, in a picnic area.
