Assets

Children's activity (ies)

Because they are visitors like the others, the visit speech is adapted to children. Throughout the route, pictorial and playful panels allow them to understand the work of the vineyard and the cellar and to participate actively in the visit.
At the end of the course, a tasting of grape juice is offered to them as well as a game book in the image of the castle is given to them. These notebooks are suitable for ages 4-6 years and 7-12 years.

Discovery of the vines

During the countryside and wine walk, visitors are led down to the plot of vines planted in front of the château (parcel of Merlot dating from 1973). On this occasion, the guides present the work of the winegrower from pruning to harvesting and also give explanations on the environmental approach adopted. We take this opportunity to explain the differences in terroir and show the clay-limestone soils up close.

Environmental approach

Château Castera is committed to respecting and preserving the environment through the High Environmental Value "HVE" certification.
At the same time, an EMS approach has been initiated in anticipation of ISO 14001 certification for an effective Environmental Management system.

History and architecture

It all started in the Middle Ages, this building, before being dedicated to the cultivation of the vine, was a stronghold with thick walls intended to protect the lords who lived there. The great architectural change took place in the 17th century, Château Castera became a place of life more suited to habitation. In the 19th century, at the instigation of the Marquis de Verthamon, a barrel cellar of just over 900 m² was built. From 1986, the Press family, the current owner, carried out renovation work on the château, which had been abandoned for many years in the 20th century.
