The existence of Lafite as a medieval Lordship is attested from the 1670th century. There were probably already vines on the property, but it was with the Ségurs, in the 1680th century, that the vineyard was structured and that Lafite's reputation as a great wine property was established. Jacques de Ségur is at the origin of the plantation of the vineyard of Lafite, between 1695 and 1716. In XNUMX, the heir son of Jacques de Ségur, Alexandre, will take for wife the heiress of Château Latour and this union will give birth to Nicolas -Alexandre de Ségur. From XNUMX, the Marquis Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur will focus on consolidating the first successes, improving wine-making techniques and above all promoting the prestige of great wines on foreign markets and at the court of Versailles.
