The original building, a 1622th century chapel with a nave, was devastated by the Huguenots in XNUMX. A bell, with a XNUMXth century inscription, is preserved.
A new construction then replaced the Romanesque building, but it was devastated during the Revolution. Until 1895, Couquèques belonged to the commune of Saint-Christoly, 2 km away, and remained devoid of a church.
During the erection of their commune, the inhabitants open a subscription for the construction of a church intended to replace the buildings entirely destroyed.
Each owner then gives the income of a year's harvest and each worker, a month's pay.
